However, it’s a common scenario: a recipe calls for just a half-cup of pumpkin puree, leaving you with the vast majority of a can. Don’t let that precious, versatile ingredient go to waste! I’ve got a fantastic hack that ensures not a single spoonful of pumpkin goodness is lost, and it sets you up for future culinary delights.
Here’s my go-to tip: transfer the remaining pumpkin puree into ice cube trays. Once filled, cover them tightly to prevent freezer burn and simply pop them into the freezer. After they’ve solidified into convenient pumpkin pucks, transfer these frozen cubes into a freezer-safe bag or airtight container. This simple trick makes portioning incredibly easy, allowing you to grab just the right amount for future recipes without thawing an entire can.
One of my absolute favorite ways to utilize these frozen pumpkin puree cubes is by whipping up a delectable and healthy Fall Pumpkin Pie Smoothie. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the comforting flavors of autumn in a refreshing and nutritious drink. Just combine coconut milk for a creamy base, a frozen banana for natural sweetness and thickness, a generous dash of pumpkin pie spice for that signature seasonal aroma, and a few of your frozen pumpkin puree cubes.
