An Unforgettable Culinary Journey: Exploring Asheville’s Vibrant Food Scene with Fellow Bloggers
Last week, the charming city of Asheville, North Carolina, played host to an incredible gathering of culinary enthusiasts and digital storytellers. It was a privilege to travel with some of my absolute favorite bloggers, experiencing the vibrant atmosphere and rich flavors that make Asheville a true “Foodtopia.” Whenever I have the opportunity to share my adventures with Diane and Todd from White On Rice Couple, I seize it. Their incredible talent behind the camera has a knack for capturing moments, and yes, it certainly helps when their magic makes everyone look fantastic, radiant, and utterly gorgeous!

Indeed, having friends who effortlessly make you look your best is a delightful bonus. Beyond my long-time travel companions, this trip also presented a wonderful chance to finally meet bloggers I’d only known through the digital realm, transforming pixels into real-life connections. Two such incredible individuals were Helen of Tartelette and Brian of The Food Geek.

For those curious about Brian’s breakfast indulgence, it was a magnificent Bacon-Egg-Croissant, perfectly paired with homemade Chipotle Grits, all sourced from the legendary Sunny Point Cafe. This meal alone exemplifies why Asheville is often referred to as a culinary paradise. Feast your eyes on the visual testament to its deliciousness!

Beyond reuniting with old friends and connecting with digital acquaintances, I was fortunate enough to forge new friendships. Our wonderful group included Alison of The Humble Gourmand, Brian of The Food Geek, Tami of Running with Tweezers, and, of course, Diane and Todd from White On Rice Couple. Together, we explored the gastronomic wonders of Asheville, each moment a discovery.

During our trip, I made a personal discovery: my place is not, emphatically not, in a professional restaurant kitchen. For starters, I suspect they might frown upon hair jewelry and my signature wispy bangs. The rigid structure and hygiene standards are a far cry from my usual relaxed approach to cooking.

And yes, my hot pink nail polish would definitely clash with a standard hairnet, confirming my suspicions about my culinary career path. However, a chef/blogger Iron Chef-like competition, especially when collaborating with a talented young chef from the Bohemian Hotel Asheville, proved to be an entirely different and infinitely more entertaining experience! The thrill of the challenge, the collaborative energy, and perhaps a few discreet sips of cooking wine from small condiment cups, made it an unforgettable highlight.

Asheville’s Craft Beverage Scene: Beer, Ice Cream, and Sake Discoveries
Speaking of spirited moments, our Asheville adventure was generously punctuated with delightful libations. A standout experience was discovering the artisan beers brewed by Highland Brewing Company. The story behind the brewery is as unique as its beers: it’s owned by a Chinese man born in Jamaica, who now champions Scottish brewing traditions right in the heart of Asheville. This unexpected cultural fusion is a testament to the city’s diverse and innovative spirit. After sampling their exceptional brews, we elevated the experience further by topping them off with hand-made ice cream from the renowned Ultimate Ice Cream Company, creating decadent beer floats that were pure bliss.

Alas, my spirited enthusiasm during the brewery visit likely means a job offer from Highland Brewing Company is not in my immediate future. Some experiences are best enjoyed purely as a guest, savoring every moment without professional aspirations.

The exquisite Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa truly outdid itself as our gracious host. To reciprocate their exceptional hospitality, I decided to treat everyone to an exclusive Japanese Artisan Sake Tasting, generously curated by Vine Connections. Witnessing the sea of elegant sake glasses, each awaiting its unique pour, was a magnificent sight!

This grand event further proved my point about Diane and Todd’s photographic prowess – they truly make everyone look utterly fantastic, even when I might have been a little overwhelmed by the sake’s delightful effects. Their ability to capture such flattering moments is nothing short of magical. Even Dodie, the brilliant organizer behind our entire Explore Asheville itinerary, couldn’t resist falling under Diane’s captivating charm and expert lens.

Our Asheville adventure was a whirlwind of culinary delights, engaging conversations, and memorable experiences. I still have more tales to tell, including fascinating stories and photos about local farm visits featuring goats, cattle, and even trout fishing adventures, but those are narratives for another day. For now, the vibrant memories of Asheville have inspired me to craft a refreshing drink of my own!
Crafting the Perfect Refreshment: The Xanadu Cocktail
Speaking of refreshing libations, I’m excited to share a fantastic recipe from the Grove Park Inn itself – the Xanadu Cocktail. This exquisite drink is an absolute must-try, especially if you’re seeking a sophisticated yet simple refreshment. The brilliant flavor combination of fresh grapefruit juice and aromatic basil leaves is truly incredible, creating a vibrant, herbaceous, and perfectly balanced concoction that is simply ideal for hot weather or as a delightful aperitif anytime. It’s a testament to Asheville’s commitment to fresh, quality ingredients and creative mixology.
